Columbus Realtors Activities:

  • Has written, appeared and spoken at Association sponsored public seminars, appeared on local TV and radio programs, and in print articles for “In Contract” magazine. Was featured on the July/August 1996 cover of “In Contract” magazine.
  • Served as Chair of the Membership Committee, 1996, streamline the application process and speeding up response times.
  • Served as Chair of the Professional Standards Committee, 2005, which hears all arbitration and ethics cases between members and the public. Currently serving 13 years’ total on the Professional Standards Committee.
  • Served as Chair of the Standard Forms Committee (RS), 2009, clarifying contract language, addendums and reducing litigation exposure. Currently serving 15 years’ total on Standard Forms.
  • Served two 3-year appointments to the Grievance Committee 1996 to 1998 and 2013 to 2015. Grievance serves as a “grand jury” to determine what ethics and arbitration cases have merit and are forwarded to the Professional Standards Committee.
  • Served on the Builder-Realtor Alliance Committee, the former CBR Communications Committee, MLS Nominating Committee and a two-year term on the CR MLS Committee 2013-2014.
  • Served as Chair of the Business Technology Form (2014) and initiated a first time Facebook page for the committee. Served 7 years’ total.
  • Currently serving on the Business Technology Forum, the Standard Forms Committee (RS) and Professional Standards Committees.
  • Suggested to CR and helped initiate a new investor seminar for the Board, including speaking at the first ever CBR Investment Seminar.
  • Received the former CBR Volunteer Service Award for 5 consecutive years, 1995 to 1999, the maximum allowed.
  • Served on the CR MLS Vendor Task Force, the CR Broker Task Force, the CR Agent Ratings Task Force, CR Title Task Force, CBR Internet Task Force and the CR Strategic Plan Workshop.

Ohio Association of Realtors:

  • Longtime corresponding committee member for OAR Legal Issues and OAR Professional Standards committees.
  • Was the only Exclusive Buyer’s Agent invited to participate out of 12 Ohio Realtors selected statewide by the Ohio Association of Realtors to participate in a live satellite broadcast regarding changes in Ohio Agency Law in 1996 with Julie Garton-Good.
  • Served as an alternate trustee delegate to the OAR Convention in 1996. Served as a delegate to the OAR Convention in 2014.
  • Testified before the Ohio House of Representatives in 1995 on Agency Issues and was the only EBA to testify on designated agency issues in the Ohio Senate in 1996

Real Estate Buyer’s Agent Council – Member #2190 received the ABR and ABRM designations from Rebac.

National Association of Exclusive Buyer Agents:

  • Joined and served on the Constitution and By-Laws Committee in 1997, improving and enhancing the governing documents of the national association.
  • Appointed to Chair the Media Relations Committee in July 1997, resulting in a new TV, internet, online and print ad campaign to increase consumer awareness nationally of Exclusive Buyer Agents.
  • Appointed to the Board of Directors in 1998 representing the US Eastern Time Zone Region, and elected to subsequent 2-year terms until his election as President-Elect in November 2002. Served as President of NAEBA from November, 2003 (San Francisco Convention) until November 2004 (Orlando Convention).  Responsible for: the ongoing development of membership benefits and growth, the annual budget and revenue forecasts, maintaining and cultivating NAEBA on a local, regional, national and international basis with effective public relations efforts, updating and implementation of NAEBA’s strategic plan, coordinating the efforts of the Consumer Inquiry program and initiated and implemented the member Resource Library data repository.
  • Developed and solicited bid contract proposals, reviewed contract proposal applications for association management contractors & executive director, conducted on-site interviews and helped recommend a new association management contractor.
  • Continued to serve as Immediate Past President in 2005.
  • Featured presenter and speaker at NAEBA National Conventions in Pittsburgh, Fort Worth, San Francisco, Las Vegas and Orlando.
  • Elected as a NAEBA Region 6 Director in 2012 then as NAEBA Association Secretary for a 2-year term in 2014. Completed term in October 2016.
  • Task Force contributor 2015-16 to the NAEBA Amicus Curaie Brief filed with The California Supreme Court: the Horiike vs. Coldwell Banker dual agency case.
  • Revised and updated the NAEBA Code of Ethics in 2014 and then the NAEBA Standards of Practice and the new “Best Practices” document in 2016.
  • Co-wrote and developed in the Summer/Fall of 2016 a first time Ethics Committee member training program for NAEBA and helped re-write the Ethics section of the NAEBA Policy & Procedures Manual

Community Activities Include:

  • Served as a senior peer counselor, volunteer trainer, public speaker, and Board Member (two-year term, helping to select a capital campaign contractor) at one of the nation’s largest multi-office crisis pregnancy centers for over 10 years, serving a wide variety of people groups, minorities, economically and/or educationally disadvantaged from a wide range of ages. Provided mentoring to a disadvantaged minority father of four.
  • Co-Chairman from 1997 to 2011 of The Rocky Fork – Blacklick Accord Implementation Panel. The RFBA is a 9-member mayor appointed panel that oversees land use, re-zoning and growth development oversight governing over 11,200 acres being developed over 30 years in the northeast Metro Columbus / New Albany / Plain Township area. Served from 1995 to 1997 on the initial 9-member panel to create the plan which was approved in 1997 by both councils for New Albany and Columbus.  Appointed twice by Republican Mayor Lashutka and four times by Democrat Mayor Coleman.  Testified before the Northland Community Council, Columbus Development Commission, New Albany Planning Commission, and the Columbus City Council.  Has appeared in print, electronic, radio and government broadcast cable TV periodically over the years.
  • Former neighborhood civic association President, several other community activities including New Albany-PTO, Columbus Motorcycle Riders MeetUp Group (over 800 members), Northland Community Council, over the years several New Albany Schools Facilities Committees and several New Albany Schools Finance Committees. Provided in 2008-09 New Albany High School juniors and seniors with Realtor career day info including in-field student “shadowing”.
  • Chair of The Smart Growth Coalition, a 9 member appointed panel charged with collecting, investigating, analyzing and making recommendations for short and long term cohesive community development and open space provisions and initiatives for three constituent groups in the New Albany School District, including the Village of New Albany and Plain Township in Franklin County.
  • In late 2015 was appointed to the Columbus City Schools Ad Hoc Facilities Advisory Committee. Served through completion in 2016 and providing input and guidance in planning a “restoration” of the district programming and facilities.
  • January 2017 began teaching real estate law part-time as an Adjunct Professor for Columbus State Community College.
