The real estate market in Columbus has received its share of media attention lately, with positive articles extolling the numerous opportunities for Central Ohio home buyers. The Huffington Post recently added another article to the good-news list, naming Columbus as #7 among the top up-and-coming housing markets in the U.S. The ranking is derived from housing and lifestyle-related data such as home affordability, job growth, home sales and real estate trends.
Examples of Columbus’s appeal to new residents includes being home to Ohio State University, which is the third-largest college campus in the nation. Columbus is also home to the Battelle Memorial Institute, the world’s largest private research and development organization. Our lifestyle, amenities and economic opportunities have helped draw 25,000 new residents to Central Ohio in the past year.
The Columbus Business Journal further evidences the positive trends in Central Ohio real estate, reporting that more homes sold in July 2015 than any other month on record, according to industry statistics. Here’s a breakdown of July 2015 home sales data:
- Homes sold: 3,208, up 11.7% from last year
- Average sale price: $206,691, up 3.9% from last year
- Average days on market: 43 days
- Home inventory for sale: 7,919, down 17.9% from last year
- Homes sold year-to-date: 17,110, up 9.7% from last year
Please note that these statistics do not include home sales that occurred independently from real estate professionals. Homes sold directly by builders, or through sale-by-owner transactions, are not counted by Realtor associations; therefore, actual sales volumes may be somewhat higher than what these numbers indicate.
