Central Ohio Trails Offer Beautiful Scenery Close to Home

Central Ohio Trails Andrew ShowThis is the perfect time of year to get out and explore the scenery to be found in Central Ohio! Here’s a few suggestions to get you started:

Dublin: Indian Run Falls Trail, 700 Shawan Falls Drive

This walking path includes scenic overlooks, boardwalks and two shelters. A pedestrian bridge traverses the waterfalls and offers a view of Indian Run gorge. The name stems from the Wyandot tribe of Native Americans who once called the location home.

While the park area is just over three and a half acres, the scenery makes it worth the visit. To avoid crowds, plan a visit weekday mornings. As temping as the water looks, wading in the falls or jumping into the water is prohibited.

Worthington: Upper Olentangy Trail, 7740 Olentangy River Road

Enjoy a mix of town and country scenery as you follow the 13.1 mile Olentangy River through Central Ohio neighborhoods and the campus of Ohio State University! There are many trailheads at Columbus city parks and neighboring communities, but Worthington is a great place to start.

The Upper Olentangy Trail is suitable for hiking, walking, running and bicycles. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash at all times. Bridges, side trails, sports fields, picnic areas and play areas are found at various points. Don’t miss the Columbus Park of Roses in Clintonville!

Columbus: Scioto Greenways Recreational Trails, Downtown Columbus

If you follow the Olentangy Trail to the south, it eventually joins with the Scioto Trail, which follows the Scioto River. This network of urban trails takes you through the best of Columbus by walking or bicycling. Attractions include the Scioto Audubon Park, COSI, the National Veterans Memorial and Museum, Bicentennial Park, the Promenade, McFerson Commons and Northbank Park.

There are restaurants, rest areas, floral gardens, entertainment stages, fountains and more set along this well-planned trail. Several observation points provide excellent photo opportunities. You can find trailheads for each section of the Scioto Greenways Recreational Trails by using this map.
