Gahanna Ohio
A lively mill town in the early 1900's Gahanna, one of the faster growing communities of Metro Columbus, features unique historic attractions, excellent schools, and fine restaurants. It is dubbed, "Herb capital of Ohio." There are 700 acres of parks providing many recreational activities.
The Olde Gahanna District recognizes the area's history and draws visitors to a one-mile tour along brick paved sidewalks to 17 homes, museums, restaurants and businesses which display local artifacts of Gahanna from the past. The City of Gahanna owes its existence to the waters of the Big Walnut Creek. The original village was founded along its edge in the mid-19th century. Through a collaborative effort with the citizens of Gahanna and consultants instrumental in San Antonio, Texas's Riverwalk Plan, City leaders led the effort to clean up the Big Walnut Creek and create unique passive recreation spaces. Since the opening of "Creekside Park", the City has seen a number of housing improvement projects. "Olde" Gahanna is being revitalized into a fully-functioning traditional neighborhood. This is a Model Urban Village in the Heart of Suburbia.
Gahanna honors traditions, but also offers an ever-growing list of community run activities, from youth sports leagues to excursions for senior citizens. The City offers all kinds of sports, arts and festivals, and most of those activities are run by the participants themselves. From the soccer leagues with over 1,600 participants to the small karate classes, from canoeing on one of the three creeks that meander through Gahanna to listening to some of the many concerts, the possibilities are numerous.
